Michelle McNamara was born to her parents, Thomas and Rita McNamara.

Both parents were Irish-American and they were blessed with six children and sixteen grandchildren.
Thomas McNamara
Thomas McNamara, 82, was a trained and practising lawyer, who grew up in the Oak Park and River Forest area.
After graduating from Northwestern Law School, Thomas worked at Jenner & Block, and had handled many case in the U.S. Supreme Court.
Thomas was married his sweetheart, Rita, and they were blessed with six children including Michelle.
He passed away on June 15, 2014, at age 82.
Rita Rigney McNamara
Rita McNamara, was a stay-at-home mum. She passed away on February 6, 2007 while on a cruise in Central America.

Who Was Michelle McNamara?
Michelle McNamara was an American true crime author, who wrote the best-selling book I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer.
She had helped in the unveiling of the serial killer identified as as Joseph James DeAngelo, who was nabbed after her death.
Her book later became an HBO adaptation for the documentary series I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, in 2020.
Although, with the help of her husband, Patton Oswalt, the book was completed posthumously, following her death in 2016.
Michelle had died in her sleep, while at home. Her cause of death was ruled as accidental drug overdose.
She is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
