Michael Peterson was married twice and had five children in all – his two biological sons, Todd and Clay, from his first marriage; and three daughters, Margaret, Martha, and Caitlin.

Margaret and Martha were Peterson’s adopted daughters. They were born to a close family friend, Elizabeth Ratliff, who had also died from the same was Kathleen Peterson died almost 20 years later.

Caitlin was Kathleen’s only biological child, and Michael’s stepdaughter.

Caitlin was the only one that stood by the prosecution against Michael for her mother’s death.

Caitlin was the only child that believed Michael had murdered Kathleen, and she subsequently won a $25 million civil suit filed against him in 2007.

Michael’s son Clayton now resides in Maryland with his two children; while Todd, lived in Tennessee, Martha lives in Colorado and Margaret in California.
