Mr. Carey was an author and national cricket correspondent in addition to being a radio host. Mr. Carey, according to Aftab Gulzar, executive editor of BBC Radio Derby, has had an “incredible life.”

The former BBC radio personality died on Saturday morning after being rescued from the River Derwent.
According to Derbyshire Constabulary, Michael Carey, 87, was retrieved from the river near Darley Abbey Mills and sent to hospital, but he died shortly after.
Mr. Carey, who grew up in the region, broadcast Memorable Melodies on BBC Radio Derby for nearly 20 years before stepping down in 2019. Police are investigating how he ended up in the river.

Michael Carey (BBC) cause of death
The radio host was pulled from the River Derwent in Darley Abbey Mills, Derbyshire, on Saturday morning, police said.
He was rushed to hospital but passed away a short time later.
Michael, known as Mike, hosted an “easy listening” program called Memorable Melodies on BBC Radio Derby for almost 20 years before stepping down in 2019.
