Daniel Dumile, better known as MF Doom, died on October 31, 2020, his wife and label revealed. There was no statement of a cause of death. He was 49 years old

Dumile was born in London but moved to New York City as a child, becoming one of the most acclaimed, unpredictable, and enigmatic individuals in independent hip-hop. He began his music career as Zev Lov X, along with his brother DJ Subroc, as part of the trio K.M.D., and the group had a brief hit in the early 1990s.

After his brother Subroc was killed in a vehicle accident in 1993, the group disbanded, and Dumile disappeared from public view, only to reappear near the end of the decade with a new identity and a flashy new persona.

He began playing at open mic nights wearing a metal mask like the Marvel Comics supervillain Doctor Doom, who appears on the cover of his 1999 debut solo album Operation: Doomsday.

Dumile released four solo albums and three collaborative albums between 2003 and 2005. In addition to the critically acclaimed Mm..Food (2004) under the MF Doom identity, he recorded solo albums under the aliases King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn, including one under the alias King Geedorah and two as Viktor Vaughn.
