Mendiola’s arrest follows a year of chaos and scandal in the district, which has gotten worse in recent months.

It’s unclear what the continuing investigation into Mendiola’s arrest is about, although there have been other criminal inquiries of district employees.

Since last spring, Mendiola is at least the fifth MISD employee to be detained.
A former coach was arrested on sexual assault charges in April 2021. Another teacher was arrested for sexual misconduct in May 2022.
