Mental Illness Death: What Mental Illness Can Cause Death?

Anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychological disorder.

The mortality rate is 11 to 12 times greater than in the general population, and the suicide risk is 56 times higher.

Half of women with AN achieve a full recovery, while an additional 20–30% may partially recover.

The most common cause of death is suicide (51.8%) followed by motor vehicle crashes and falls, (23.3%) medical causes (17.6%) and homicide (1.3%).14

Report shows an estimate of 14.3% of deaths worldwide, or approximately 8 million deaths each year, attributed to mental disorders.

These estimates suggest that mental disorders rank among the most substantial causes of death worldwide
