Memphis Depay Reconciles with His Father After Previously Expressing Hatred for Abandoning Him as a Child

Memphis Depay recently shared a series of photos on Instagram, offering insights into his cultural heritage and personal life, connecting with his fans on social media.

The Atletico Madrid forward also shared a picture of his infant self being cradled by his father, Dennis Depay.

Depay’s post comes after reports surfaced in previous years alleging that the former Barcelona star had criticized his father for abandoning him during his childhood.

However, the footballer and musician seemed to suggest that he has reconciled with his father.

The Netherlands international had previously removed his father’s name, reportedly indicating that he felt abandoned by him during his childhood.

“I will never forgive him,” Depay was quoted to have told BBC via Goal about his Ghanaian father, following his decision to drop his surname in 2012.

“Do not call me Depay, call me Memphis. No, I don’t want to explain exactly what happened at home because I don’t want to make people feel ashamed. And that’s how it will remain because I’ve already moved on.”

Depay’s dad, Dennis, purportedly departed from the household when Memphis was just three years old.
