He held the record for having the world’s longest nose. His nose measured 8.8 centimeters (3.5 inches) when it was measured on March 18, 2010. It was measured again in 2020 and 2021, where a change was undetected, disproving the myth that a person’s nose and ears continue to grow with age.

Born on October 19, 1949, Mehmet Özyürek was bullied by his friend and colleagues when he was younger, due to his nose, however, he later shared that he believed it was a blessing from God when he started getting recognition.
He once claimed that he had a better sense of smell than the average person and was also able to inflate a balloon with his nose.

“I have such a special feature. It’s a genetic condition as far as I understand. There was no explanation by the doctors, but I have it in my family, so my father has it, my uncles have it, and I have it. My friends used to call me Big Nose to upset me. But I took a look at myself. That’s when I looked in the mirror – I discovered myself,” he said during an interview with Guinness World Records.
According to sources, the generation after him does not have such a feature. However, Mehmet is still proud of his unique identity which he was ridiculed for at first, got him into the Guinness World Record Books.
“I love my nose of course… I have been blessed. I am extremely pleased to represent Turkey, the Black Sea, or Artvin on an international scale. Some become martyrs, some become Prime Ministers and some become record holders,” he added.
Some sources claim that the person with the longest nose ever to exist was an English man named Thomas Wedders who lived in the 1770s. His nose reportedly measured 19 centimeters 7.5 inches long.
