Meg was born on 30 September 1936 and died on 1 July 2023, aged 86.

Meg’s first professional acting role occurred in 1961 when she was aged 25 in a television series titled Family Solicitor.

She subsequently starred in The Referees (1961) and Here’s Harry (1961–1964).

She originally appeared as Brenda Holden in a few guest episodes of the ITV serial opera Coronation Street in 1976, before being cast as Eunice Gee in 1981, a role she would play with recurrent appearances until 1999.

She collaborated with Victoria Wood multiple times in the 1980s, appearing in several episodes of her series Victoria Wood: As Seen on TV and Victoria Wood Presents.

She played Mama Morton in the West End production of Chicago in 1997.

She also featured in the theatre productions of Follies and Gypsy.

From 2000 to 2003, she appeared in the Channel 4 soap opera Brookside as Brigid McKenna. She was later cast as Pearl Ladderbanks in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale, a role she portrayed until March 2020.
