In a press release issued on International Labour Day, MELPWU emphasized the critical role medical laboratory science professionals play in the healthcare system.
They highlighted the urgent need for improved working conditions, competitive salaries, and opportunities for career progression tailored to their profession.
Despite ongoing negotiations, MELPWU expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress and urgency from the FWSC.
They also raised concerns about the plight of unemployed medical laboratory science professionals, who face financial hardship due to the lack of financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.
The union emphasized the significant investment in training and education made by these professionals, who remain unemployed despite the shortage of medical laboratory science professionals in healthcare facilities across the country.

They also highlighted instances of underpayment and stagnant salaries, which they deem as unfair labor practices.
MELPWU issued a three-week ultimatum to the FWSC, warning of a strike action commencing on May 20 if no agreement is reached on improved conditions of service and other pertinent issues.
As advocates for the rights and welfare of medical laboratory science professionals, MELPWU reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address these pressing concerns and ensure a fair and dignified working environment for all.
