Max Pacioretty was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round, 22nd overall, in the 2007 NHL entry draft.
He spent the majority of his career with the Canadiens, playing for the team from 2008 to 2018. He went on to captain them for his final three seasons with Montreal and score 30 or more goals in five of those seasons.
He was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights before the 2018-19 NHL season, and while the move revitalized his career, he was traded to the Hurricanes four seasons later due to salary cap complications with the Golden Knights.

Pacioretty suffered a torn Achilles tendon during an off-season workout just weeks into his tenure with Carolina, necessitating surgery and ruling him out for the first several months of the 2022-23 season.
He made his Hurricanes debut on January 5, 2023, in a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators, and scored two goals in his second game, a 5-4 shootout loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, on January 7, 2023.
