Born in Germany, Corden’s journey in economics took him from the shadows of Nazi Germany to the shores of Melbourne in 1939.

His life’s work reached its zenith during his tenure as Professor of Economics at the Australian National University from 1977 to 1988.

Corden assumed the role of a senior advisor in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund from 1986 to 1988.

Later, he became the Chung Ju Yung Distinguished Professor of International Economics at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, a position he held until his retirement in late 2002.

Post-retirement, his commitment to economics persisted as he served as an emeritus professor of international economics at SAIS and a professorial fellow in the Department of Economics at the University of Melbourne.

Corden’s impactful work in economics was duly recognized with numerous awards.

His influence on economic thought and theory remains an enduring legacy.
