Born on February 7, 1982, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Matthew James Matheson, popularly known as Matty Matheson, is a Canadian chef, restaurateur, actor, and internet personality. He grew up in Nova Scotia until the age of 11, when his family moved to Fort Erie, Ontario. His culinary journey was influenced by his grandfather, a restaurateur and former RCMP officer, who owned The Blue Goose restaurant in DeSable, where Matty spent his summers. Despite his initial connection to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Matheson’s family left the church upon leaving Nova Scotia.

Education and Early Culinary Career
Matheson moved to Toronto in 2000 and attended Humber’s cooking program. Although he dropped out briefly to tour as a roadie for a friend’s metal band, he discovered his talent for butchering meat. Matheson resumed his culinary career, working at Le Sélect Bistro in 2003 under chef Rang Nguyen, learning French culinary techniques. He later joined the restaurant La Palette in 2006.
Television Career
Matty Matheson gained recognition for his energetic and wild personality, leading to appearances on Vice’s show “Munchies.” He hosted Viceland’s “It’s Suppertime!” and “Dead Set on Life.” Matheson’s approachable style and love for food made him a fan favourite. He has also appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and signed with WME Agency in 2021. In June 2022, he joined the cast and crew of FX’s “The Bear.”
Restaurateur Ventures

He partnered with Shlomo Buchler in 2015 to create the pizza restaurant Maker Pizza, which expanded across the Greater Toronto Area. His collaboration with Toronto chefs Kate Chomyshyn and Julio Guajardo led to the opening of “Birria Balam” in 2021, specializing in the Mexican dish birria. They later opened “Fonda Balam,” serving birria and other Mexican cuisine. Matheson’s diverse culinary interests extended to Vietnamese cuisine with the opening of “Ca Phe Rang” in 2022.

In April 2022, Matheson fulfilled a long-time dream with the opening of “Prime Seafood Palace,” a steakhouse and seafood restaurant in Trinity-Bellwoods, Toronto. He incorporated all his restaurants into “Our House Hospitality Company.”
In November 2022, Matheson introduced “Rizzo’s House of Parm,” an Italian-American restaurant named after his daughter, in Fort Erie, Ontario.
Cookbooks and Miscellaneous Ventures
Matty Matheson shared his culinary expertise in two cookbooks: “Matty Matheson: A Cookbook” (2018) and “Matty Matheson: Home Style Cookery” (2020). Beyond the kitchen, he co-hosts the podcast “Powerful Truth Angels” and ventured into fashion with the “Rosa Rugosa” workwear clothing line.
