Australian track cyclist Matthew Richardson (born 1999) specializes in the Sprint events in the UCI Track Champions League. Up until the age of nine, Richardson lived in the UK and then migrated to Western Australia. Richardson was a gymnast when he was younger, but an elbow injury forced him to give up the sport. He then became interested in cycling.

Matthew advanced fast through the ranks, earning a spot on Cycling Australia’s Podium Potential Academy in 2019. He experienced a breakthrough in 2022. He captured his first Tissot UCI Track World Championships title in the Team Sprint after winning two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in the Men’s Sprint and Team Sprint events in July.
