Australia is the country of origin of famed diver Matthew Mitcham, who was born on March 2, 1988. Matthew is also well-known for being an Olympic diver for Australia who won the gold medal in the 10m platform competition at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His single-dive score of 112.10 made Olympic history as the highest ever for a single dive.

In 2006, Mitcham competed in two Grand Prix competitions: the US Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, where he finished eighth on the 3 m springboard, and the German Grand Prix, where he finished 16th on the 3 m and 6th on the 10 m. He finished 26th on the 3 m in the Canada Cup and took home the bronze on the 10 m platform.
