The New York Yankees signed Matt Carenter, who played last with the St. Louis Cardinals, to a major-league contract worth $1 million.

In March, Matt also signed a minor-league deal with the Texas Rangers.

While he was with the Cardinals, Matt played for 11 seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, and recorded 275 bats with 155 homers and 576 RBIs in 21 games.

In his first year, he played 19 games, one at third and the other two at designated hitter.

He was also named the first Silver Slugger Award winner in the history of the Cardinals franchise.
