Mary Tyler Moore died at the age of 80 on January 25, 2017, at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut, from cardiopulmonary arrest complicated by pneumonia.

Prior to her death, Mary Tyler Moore was placed on a ventilator a week earlier. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1969 and in 2011, she had surgery to remove a benign brain tumour.

In 2014, it was reported that Mary Tyler Moore had heart and kidney problems and was nearly blind from complications related to diabetes. She was interred in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, Connecticut in a private ceremony.
Mary Tyler Moore was born on December 29, 1936, in Brooklyn Heights, New York, United States of America. In February 1981, Mary Tyler Moore was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the drama film Ordinary People.
In 1987, Mary Tyler Moore received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Comedy from the American Comedy Awards. Mary Tyler Moore was awarded the 2011 Screen Actors Guild’s lifetime achievement award.
