The pioneer designer of miniskirt and hot pants, Mary Quant died of natural causes, on April 13, 2023, at her Surrey residence.

She was aged 93.

Talk about the earliest influencers of fashion as far back as the 1960s, Quant will definitely not be omitted.

Her influence and designs in the fashion industry made high class clothing accessible to the common man.

Who Was Mary Quant?

Mary Quant was a British fashion designer known for being at the forefront of the London-based Mod and youth fashion movements as far back as the 1960s.

Quant who began by running a boutique, ended up rubbing shoulders with the likes of Chanel and Dior.

Her miniskirt and other collection of hers gained attention from media like Harper’s Bazaar.

Quant innovated the coloured and patterned tights, short shorts, and hot pants, and therefore, she became an icon in the industry.

As of 1967, Quant was known to design berets in twelve colours for British headwear company Kangol, which  carried her daisy logo.

She also delved into household goods, make-up, and duvet.

In 2000, Quant resigned as director of her company, Mary Quant Ltd, after she sold it to a Japanese. Today, “there are over 200 Mary Quant Colour shops in Japan.”
