For his book Experience, he won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and his name appeared twice on the Booker Prize shortlist.
Amis claimed that his father had no interest in his writing. “I can pinpoint the precise spot where he stopped and launched Money into the air; that’s where the Martin Amis character comes in.”

Amis said in The New Republic in 2012 that he was “moving house” from London’s Camden Town to Cobble Hill.
He had a residence in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, and was a lifelong heavy smoker. On May 19, 2023, at the age of 73, he passed away from oesophageal cancer.
