Marti Maraden obituary

Former creative director, actress, and director for the group Marti Maraden, 78, passed away on Thursday while visiting family in Sweden.

Maraden was born and raised in California before moving to Canada in 1968. Six years later, under the creative direction of Jean Gascon, she began performing at the Stratford Festival, where she played a variety of parts, including Katharine in Love’s Labour’s Lost and Antiochus’s Daughter in Pericles.

With Robin Phillips serving as artistic director, the young actor’s brilliance and versatility truly emerged.
In the acclaimed 1975 production of The Importance of Being Earnest, which starred William Hutt as Lady Bracknell, Maraden played Cecily Cardew, Mary Warren in The Crucible, Juliet in Measure for Measure with Martha Henry and Brian Bedford, and Olivia in Twelfth Night with Bedford as well.
