Marti Maraden was a Canadian actress and director who lived from June 22, 1945, to August 31, 2023. She relocated to Canada in 1968 after being born in El Centro, California, and rose to prominence as a prominent actor at the Stratford Festival in the 1970s.

Maraden served as the National Arts Centre English Theatre’s artistic director in Ottawa from 1997 to 2006. The Magnetic North Theatre Festival was co-founded by the National Arts Centre when she was in this position and as a result of her actions in that capacity.

The Stratford Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford, Ontario, hired Maraden to succeed Richard Monette as creative director in 2006. Maraden, unlike past artistic directors at Stratford, was a part of a three-person artistic team that also comprised co-directors Des McAnuff and Don Shipley until the three had to break up because of creative disagreements.
