Mark Spiro, the American songwriter, record producer, and artist, passed away at the age of 67 on March 30, 2024, due to cancer.

His career, spanning over two decades, left a mark on melodic rock music.

Spiro’s songwriting prowess led to hits like “Mighty Wings” by Cheap Trick and “In Dreams” by John Waite, among others.

He collaborated with various artists including Julian Lennon, Heart, and Lita Ford. Alongside producing albums, Spiro released solo music and also worked with his daughters, Ruby and Summer Spiro, who formed the duo Ruby Summer.

In 2020, Frontiers Records released a compilation of Spiro’s solo material titled “2+2=5: Best of + Rarities”.

Additionally, Spiro announced a new solo album, “Traveling Cowboys”, released in 2021, featuring a duet with Julian Lennon and guitarist Tim Pierce called “7 Billion People”.

He leaves behind his wife, Leslie, and daughters Ruby and Summer. Mark Spiro’s musical legacy will endure in rock music history, with his contributions remembered fondly by fans and artists alike.
