Mark Milley Parents: Alexander Milley and Mary Elizabeth

Mark Milley is a retired United States Army general. He is the son of Alexander Milley and Mary Elizabeth.

He comes from a family of army veterans. Peter his paternal grandpa, was from Newfoundland and served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during World War I’s Gallipoli campaign

His father Alexander enlisted in the United States Navy as a navy corpsman in March 1943. He joined the 4th Marine Division and served on the islands of Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.

He worked as a restaurateur and food trader after the war. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, which is only open to practicing Catholic men.

Mark Milley’s mother, Mary Elizabeth was a nurse who served with the Navy’s WAVES during WWII and is described as a “break-the-glass-ceiling” type of lady by Milley.

General Mark A. Milley, a Princeton University ROTC graduate, was commissioned as an armor officer in 1980. He later earned a degree from Columbia University.

President Donald Trump appointed him as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, making Milley the tenth U.S. Army officer to hold the position.

Milley was the highest-ranking officer in the United States Armed Forces and the primary military advisor to the president, the secretary of defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council as chairman.
