Marion Sylvester Barber III was an American football running back who played in the National Football League for seven seasons.

After playing college football for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL Draft.

Barber left the Cowboys after the 2010 season, joining the Chicago Bears for his final year in the NFL. After retiring from football, Barber battled mental health issues and had several run-ins with police.

Marion Barber’s life after the NFL appears to have been difficult. Barber struggled with mental health concerns after retiring from football and had multiple run-ins with the police.

In 2014, he was held by police in Mansfield, Texas, but instead of being jailed, he was brought to a hospital for a mental health assessment.

Frisco (Texas) police said they responded to a report earlier in the day at an apartment Barber was thought to be leasing.

They discovered “an unattended death” there. An investigation is underway since no cause of death has been found.

However, according to social media speculation, Marion Barber committed suicide as a result of the mental distress he was experiencing. However, no public statements back up this data.

Frisco police said Wednesday afternoon, 1st June 2022 at 2:40, officers responded to a call about a welfare concern at an apartment in the 9400 block of Stratton Drive that was believed to be leased by Barber.

Police describe the investigation as an unattended death.

Barber, who would have turned 39 on June 10, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round in 2005 and spent six seasons in North Texas where his hard-hitting, punishing style of running earned him the nickname “Marion the Barbarian.”

Though social media speculations state that, Marion Barber committed suicide as a result of the mental distress he was experiencing. However, no public statements back up this data.
