Marietta Giannakou Cause Of Death

Former Greek Education Minister, Marietta Giannakou passed on due to long health problems- diabetes and kidney problems. She had a heart attack years ago and had her legs amputated in 2008.

The lawmaker of the New Democratic Party of Greece died in a military hospital on Sunday, after being treated in the intensive care unit. She was 70.

Giannakou became a doctor and neuropsychologist at the University of Athens School of Medicine. She was a member of the Greek Parliament, a Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission of European Affairs.

She was also a member of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Affairs and Defence. Giannakou Chaired the Greek Friendship Group between the Greek and Polish Parliament.

She became the national coordinator and a member of the Council of the European Union’s Horizontal Working Group on Drugs. She was also a former Head of the New Democratic Party Delegation of the European Parliament.

She was married to Panagiotis Koutsikos who is an electrical engineer.
