In February 2010, Michael, one of Osmond’s eight children with second husband Brian Blosil, died by suicide in Los Angeles after leaping to his death from his eighth-floor apartment. He was 18 years old at the time.

Michael had previously entered a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons in 2007, but by 2009, Osmond shared that he was doing well and was in his senior year of high school.
In 2019, Osmond talked about the death of her son in an episode of The Talk. “So, my son was bullied before he died.”
Michael was “bullied very heavily up until the time” he died by suicide “because of his sobriety,” according to Osmond, who also claims to have “the texts.”

“I mean, they’re horrible, and I’ve never done anything about it.” But, to tell you the truth, I believe that was a big part of him feeling overwhelmed and like he didn’t belong. I took no action against the three children. “I’m aware of who they are.”
Even though Osmond never confronted Michael’s bullies, she believes the behaviour should be addressed in the hopes of preventing other children from killing themselves.
