Mardye McDole, one of the greatest wide receivers in Mississippi State history, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at the age of 63.

Mardye McDole is survived by his wife, son, daughter, and two grandchildren. The cause of McDole’s death has not been officially announced, but sources close to him said he had been battling health issues for a while.

Mardye McDole was an American football wide receiver selected in the second round by the Minnesota Vikings out of Mississippi State University in the 1981 NFL Draft.
Mardye McDole was an All-State wide receiver at Murphy in 1976, when the Panthers reached the state championship game. He caught six passes for 242 yards — including touchdowns of 88, 70, and 32 yards.
Mardye McDole’s professional career was cut short by injuries. He played three seasons with the Vikings and later joined the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL and the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.
