Marcus Sedgwick, a British illustrator, musician and author best known for the novels Floodland and The Dark Horse has died. He was born on 8 April 1968 and died in November 2022 at age 54.

Prior to becoming a full-time author, Sedgwick was a bookseller at Heffers, a children’s bookstore. He also worked at Ragged Bear, a children’s publishing company.
- His first book, Floodland, published in 2000, received the Branford-Boase award for the best first children’s novel of that year.
- The Dark Horse, which he wrote in 2002 was shortlisted for The Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize.

What Happened to Marcus Sedgwick?
In 2013, Sedgwick revealed that he had been diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), or myalgic encephalomyelitis, and prescribed cognitive behavioral therapy in hopes that the therapy would help alleviate the symptoms he was going through.

Sadly, while some of his symptoms subsided, others did not.
He eventually died in November 2022, 9 years after the diagnosis.
What Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)?
CFS/ME is a serious, long-term illness with a profound effect on the body’s many systems.
In most cases, people with ME/CFS are often not able to do their usual activities and at times, the disease may confine them to bed.
It is mostly characterized by severe fatigue and sleep problems.
