Prior to his appointment at Miami, Diaz had a successful stint as the head coach at Temple University and has also served as an assistant coach at several other colleges and universities.

Manny Diaz was born on June 30, 1976, in Miami, Florida. He grew up in Miami and attended Florida State University, where he played football as a defensive tackle.

After graduating from Florida State in 1998, Diaz began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater.

He later served as an assistant coach at various colleges, including Mississippi State University, the University of North Carolina, and Louisiana Tech University.

In 2011, Diaz was hired as the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech University, where he served for two seasons.

He then spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Louisiana State University before being named the head coach at Temple University in December 2016.

Diaz led Temple to a 19-7 record in two seasons and was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2018.
