For an undisclosed amount, Celtic acquired center defender Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw. The 22-year-old and the Scottish champions have agreed to a five-year contract. For the Polish Ekstraklasa runners-up last season, Nawrocki made 30 appearances, starting all but four of them, and scoring four goals.
The defender, who was born in Bremen and progressed through Werder Bremen’s junior system, made a permanent move to Legia Warsaw last summer following a year on loan.

In the shootout that followed a 0-0 tie, Nawrocki scored the winning penalty kick to help Legia win the Polish Cup last season. Legia went on to defeat league champions Rakow Czestochowa 6-5.

After another scoreless draw with Rakow in this season’s Polish Super Cup, Legia replicated the feat with the help of the Poland Under-21 international.

Celtic of the Scottish Premiership announced on July 26, 2023, that they had signed Nawrocki to a five-year contract for a reported sum of more than £4.3 million.
Nawrocki noted that he was aware of “how big this club is” given the quantity of Polish players who have previously represented Celtic.
