Maia Sandu, the distinguished President of Moldova since December 24, 2020, is not only a seasoned politician but also a product of a nurturing family environment that instilled in her the values of education, public service, and leadership.

Born on May 24, 1972, in the commune of Risipeni, located in the Fălești District within the Moldavian SSR of the former USSR, Maia Sandu’s journey to becoming the nation’s leader is deeply rooted in her familial background.

The proud daughter of Grigorie and Emilia Sandu, Maia was raised in a household that valued diverse professions. Her father, Grigorie, contributed to the community as a veterinarian, emphasizing care for the well-being of animals. On the other hand, her mother, Emilia, took on the role of a teacher, highlighting the significance of education in the family’s values.

The educational journey of President Sandu is a testament to her commitment to personal and professional development. From 1989 to 1994, she pursued a major in management at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldavia/Moldova (ASEM).

Continuing her quest for knowledge, Maia majored in international relations at the Academy of Public Administration in Chișinău from 1995 to 1998. Her academic pursuits culminated in 2010 when she graduated from the prestigious John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

The influence of her family’s commitment to education and service is evident in Maia Sandu’s career trajectory. Between 2010 and 2012, she served as an Adviser to the Executive Director at the World Bank in Washington, D.C., contributing to global initiatives and broadening her understanding of international affairs.
