Gore was a soccer fan until his parents introduced him to baseball. He initially refused to play, but his parents told him he could quit if he didn’t like it. Selena and her husband, Evan, knew their son had found a home on the mound at the age of 11.

MacKenzie Evan Gore currently plays for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was selected third overall by the San Diego Padres. On June 23, 2017, he signed a rookie contract.
MacKenzie Gore made his MLB debut on April 15, 2022, pitching against the defending champion Atlanta Braves.
