The FIU’s police department had received an emergency call at about 8:40 p.m on Wednesday from Luke’s dormitory.

On arrival at his dormitory, at University Towers, the Police found Luke unresponsive and began CPR.

Luke was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

FIU coach Mike MacIntyre had taken to social media to express his condolences.

“Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow we feel because of the passing of our teammate and friend, Luke Knox,” he wrote.

“I had the honor of coaching Luke at Ole Miss and at FIU. While I admired his passion for football, his genuine love for his family and teammates is what I will always remember”, he added.
