He was born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, despite the fact that his father was from Stranraer in southwest Scotland. He has stated that he is “half Scottish.”
Nonetheless, Donald plays golf as an Englishman and has represented England in the World Cup of golf. Donald went to the Rudolf Steiner School in Kings Langley before moving on to the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe.
He was a junior member of Hazlemere and Beaconsfield Golf Clubs. He won the Beaconsfield club championship twice, the first time when he was 15 years old. Christian, Donald’s younger brother, also played junior golf and caddied for Luke.
Luke Donald turned professional in 2001, making his PGA Tour debut at the Reno-Tahoe Open thanks to a sponsors exemption.

Luke Donald had a fantastic year in 2011, winning a number of tournaments and prizes.
After winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in May 2011, Donald ascended to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking.
He won the PGA Tour money list as well as the European Race to Dubai to clinch a historic double, becoming the first player to win both the PGA and European Tour money lists in the same year.
He won the PGA Player of the Year award as well as the European Tour Golfer of the Year. He was also the first Englishman to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year, the Vardon Trophy, and the Mark H. McCormack Award for the most weeks at number one in a calendar year.
