In a chilling revelation in October 1999, Garavito confessed to a gruesome catalog of offenses that included the rape, torture, mutilation, and murder of 147 minors, primarily young men and boys from western Colombia.

His reign of terror began in the autumn of 1980, initiating a series of torture-rapes on minors aged 6 to 16. It’s estimated that he inflicted unimaginable suffering on at least 200 young lives during this period.

The darkest chapter in his life unfolded between October 4, 1992, and April 21, 1999, as he committed the rape, torture, mutilation, and murder of an additional 189 minors in Colombia. Shockingly, his horrors extended beyond Colombia’s borders, with links to four more murders in Ecuador during the summer of 1998.
