Luigi Minchillo, who was born on March 17, 1955, in San Paolo Civitate, fought every great boxer of his day, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Durán, Thomas Hearns, Maurice Hope, and Mike McCallum.

The only opponent in his career to be able to knock him out in the first round was Sugar Ray Leonard, who he faced in his first significant matchup on July 27, 1973.

He competed in the welterweight division at the 1976 Summer Olympics as an amateur boxer. Luigi Minchillo joined Umberto Branchini’s Totip stable and made his professional boxing debut in 1977.

At the age of 68, Minchillo passed away from a heart attack on September 25, 2023. In Pesaro, Italy, on April 24, 1979, Minchillo defeated Clemente Gessi by technical knockout early in the first round to win the super welterweight championship, which had been vacant since Damiano Lassandro, another boxer who had relocated there around the same time. Minchillo has won 17 straight fights.
