In the documentary, his cancer diagnosis is discussed. Van Gaal says he didn’t tell the Oranje players about his condition before the World Cup to avoid influencing their “choices or determination.”

Treatment began last year, and Van Gaal said he had undergone 25 sessions of radiation, some of which occurred during training camps. Pancreatic cancer claimed the life of Van Gaal’s first wife. ‘I’ve dealt with illness before,’ he replied.

‘They are a part of life, and I believe they have made me stronger as a person.’ That’s why I wanted [the diagnosis] to appear in the documentary.’ Van Gaal has previously said that he will leave Oranje after the World Cup in Qatar.
