Tillett was born in Sydney in 1959. He founded the Wet Taxis in 1977 as an experimental band. It later evolved into a psychedelic rock outfit, captivating local admirers with its strange and hypnotic sound, which was anchored by Tillett’s unusual low-pitch ‘dark’ vocals.

In the mid-1980s, he created the jazzier trio Paris Green. Well known to fans of Sydney’s thriving independent music scene of the 80s and 90s, Tillett was much admired for his solo work and his band, the Wet Taxis.

Tillett’s other recordings include A Cast of Aspersions in 1990, Soliloquy and his last record, To Ride a Dead Pony in 2018.
