Lewis Black has been in relationships with Kathleen Madigan and Caitlin Clarke. Lewis Black grew up in a middle-class Jewish family in the Burnt Mills neighborhood of Silver Spring, Maryland.

Lewis Black attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he studied playwriting. He later transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he continued his studies in playwriting and became a member of the Student Congress before graduating in 1970.

Lewis Black hosted the Comedy Central series “Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil”. In 2015, Lewis Black lent his voice to the character Anger in the Pixar film “Inside Out”.
Lewis Black is also a spokesperson for the Aruba Tourism Authority, appearing in television ads.
Lewis Black has been an “ambassador for voting rights” for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) since 2013. When not touring, Black resides in Manhattan but also maintains a residence in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
