Leon Schwarzbaum Cause Of Death, Who Are Leon Schwarzbaum’s Wife And Children?

Leon Schwarzbaum, a survivor of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz and a lifetime advocate for Holocaust victims’ rights, is dead. He was 101 years old.

Schwarzbaum died early Monday in Potsdam, near Berlin, according to the International Auschwitz Committee’s website. There was no mention of a cause of death.

“It is with tremendous grief, respect, and appreciation that Holocaust survivors worldwide bid farewell to their friend, fellow suffering, and companion Leon Schwarzbaum, who in the later decades of his life became one of the most important contemporary witnesses of the Shoah,” the committee stated.

According to the Auschwitz committee, Schwarzbaum was the only member of his family to survive the concentration camps at Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and a subcamp Sachsenhausen.

Schwarzbaum was born in Hamburg, northern Germany, in 1921 to a Polish-Jewish family. He grew up in Bedzin, Poland, when his family was sent to Auschwitz after the ghetto there was disbanded in 1943.

Schwarzbaum spent several years after the war in Berlin, where he worked as an art and antique dealer. According to the daily tabloid Bild, he was married twice but had no children.
