Leo Wilden, a former national soccer player for FC Köln, passed away on Thursday, May 5th, at the age of 85, according to the club. His cause of death was undisclosed. Information about his personal life is unavailable.

Leo Wilden was a defender for the German national team. For the West German national team, he appeared in two 1962 World Cup Qualification matches. Between 1958 and 1966, Wilden played centre-back for 1. FC Köln won the West German football championship in 1962 and 1964.

Wilden was known for his outstanding positional play, great vision, and hard tackling as a player. If necessary, he could also provide offensive impetus. Some compared him to Ludwig Goldbrunner, a player from the 1930s.

Wilden moved to Bayer Leverkusen in 1966 and left in 1971. Later, he coached Pulheimer SC and SC West Köln, and in 1971, he was elected vice-chairman of SC West Köln. Later, he owned and operated several tobacco shops in Cologne.
