Bruce was renowned for his open, free-wheeling, and critical style of comedy which contained satire, politics, religion, sex, and vulgarity.
Bruce paved the way for counterculture-era comedians and his trial for obscenity was a landmark of freedom of speech in the United States.
Bruce was convicted in 1964 in an obscenity trial which was followed by a posthumous pardon in 2003.
Lenny Bruce was born on October 13, 1925 and died on August 3, 1966.

How did Lenny die?

On August 3, 1966, Bruce was found dead in the bathroom of his Hollywood Hills home and the official photo taken at the scene showed him lying naked on the floor, a syringe and burned bottle cap nearby, along with various other narcotics paraphernalia.
Record producer Phil Spector, a friend of Bruce, bought the negatives of the photographs “to keep them from the press”.
The official cause of death of Bruce was “acute morphine poisoning caused by an overdose”
