Apanga emphasized the importance of a collective effort in combating corruption, highlighting that Agyabeng has been left to battle the issue alone since assuming office.
Expressing concern over the petition, Apanga noted that it sends a negative signal regarding the nation’s commitment to fighting corruption. He stated, “The petitioning for the removal of the OSP would mean that our fight against corruption is being defeated.”
The criticism comes in the wake of a petition filed by former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, alleging procurement breaches and other misconduct by Agyabeng. Amidu’s petition, dated April 30, 2024, and conveyed to Justice Gertrude Torkornoo on May 6, 2024, raised various allegations against Agyabeng.

Apanga highlighted the lack of government support for the Office of the Special Prosecutor and suggested that the government may be embarrassed by some of the cases pursued by Agyabeng.
He further criticized the swift action taken by President Akufo-Addo in forwarding the petition to the Chief Justice, suggesting that it reflects a lack of commitment to the fight against corruption.
Apanga pointed out that similar petitions have not received the same level of attention from the Presidency, raising questions about the consistency of government actions.
Overall, he expressed skepticism regarding the government’s sincerity in addressing corruption and called for a more concerted effort to combat the issue.
