Burrow passed away at Pinderfields Hospital on June 2, 2024, due to complications from motor neurone disease (MND). He was surrounded by his family and close friend Kevin Sinfield.

Burrow was diagnosed with MND in 2019, just two years after retiring from a stellar 17-season career with the Leeds Rhinos. His death was announced on the Leeds Rhinos Facebook page.

In an emotional tribute, Sinfield described the news as “the day that I hoped would never come,” adding, “I would always say that you were pound for pound the toughest player I ever played alongside; however, since your diagnosis, you were the toughest and bravest man I have ever met.”

Burrow enjoyed a decorated career, winning eight Super League titles with the Leeds Rhinos and representing England and Great Britain internationally. He was awarded a CBE in the New Year Honours List for his services to MND.

Tanya Curry, the chief executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, praised Burrow’s impact: “He made a huge amount of difference, not only for donations and financial influence for the organization but actually in the campaigning arena. It’s a rare disease, but actually something that people understand now. So, he has done so much for the community, and we are honestly so grateful for that.”

Burrow is survived by his wife Lindsey and their children Macy, Maya, and Jackson.
