Leah Remini is an American actress, author, and activist. Leah Marie Remini was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to asbestos removal company owners Vicki Marshall and George Remini.

Her mother is of Austrian Jewish descent, and her father is of Sicilian Italian ancestry. Leah Remini was baptised Catholic and raised in the faith from a young age.
When Remini was eight years old, her mother joined the Church of Scientology, and she was raised as a Scientologist ever since. Remini and her sister Nicole were taken at the age of 13 to join Scientology’s paramilitary organisation, the Sea Organisation, where they were forced to sign billion-year contracts and work for their room and board.

Children in the Sea Org are not raised by their parents, are treated as adults, and work around the clock. Within the same year, Remini’s mother decided to remove her children from the Sea Org and return to civilian Scientology life.
Leah Remini and her father did not have a great relationship. It is reported that she wouldn’t pay for her father’s cancer testing. Her father passed away in 2029. However, she only found out about his death from a stranger. She blamed the Church of Scientology for not informing her.
