Laura Muir graduated as a vet from Glasgow University in 2018, having balanced training and studying with the required hours of work experience.
Muir has dedicated her life to athletics since graduating, with competitions taking her all over the world.
In 2019, Muir stated that she wanted to keep her hand in the game by doing some volunteer or charity veterinary work.
Muir described it as a “good distraction” from the high-pressure world of sports, saying, “It’s nice to have that other thing going on in your life rather than just athletics.”

“Sport is also extremely unpredictable. You hope that injuries never happen and that you get to call it quits when they do, but things happen, and if your career is cut short, it’s good to have something to fall back on and to continue doing something you enjoy.”
Laura Muir is a two-time World Indoor Championship medalist and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic silver medalist in the 1500m.
Muir set the current world record of 3:54.50 in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics, placing her in the top 15 all-time.
