Larry Mahan, one of the finest cowboys in ProRodeo history, had an estimated net worth of $5 million at the time of his death. Mahan’s net wealth grew as a result of his successful cowboy career and other business enterprises.

Outside of racing, Mahan was a successful entrepreneur:

  • He founded the Larry Mahan Boot Collection and a clothing business.
  • He also licensed his name to companies such as Tony Lama, Gensco, and others.

Since 1984, the Milano Hat Company has sold Larry Mahan’s Hat Collection.

In his career, Mahan was a prolific roughstock cowboy, competing in the NFR 26 times in bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. He won the Bull Riding World Championship in 1965 and 1967, as well as six All-Around Gold Buckles.

Following his career, which lasted from 1964 to 1975, Mahan was one of the first inductees into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1979.

Among many others, Mahan is a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame, and the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Mahan also worked with Warner Bros on a country album and dabbled in acting.

He played a minor role in Steve Ihnat’s 1972 picture The Honkers.

He made his film debut in 1975 with Six Pack Annie.

Mahan co-starred in Tommy Lee Jones’s 1995 television film The Good Old Guys, which also starred Sissy Spacek, Matt Damon, and Joaquin Jackson.

Larry Mahan died on May 7, 2023, at the age of 79.
