With at least 19 students and one teacher killed as of 10 p.m. CT, the massacre at a South Texas elementary school on Tuesday, May 24, is now the deadliest K-12 school shooting in Texas and the second deadliest in the US.
On the campus of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, also known as Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, the largest and deadliest school shooting in US history occurred.

The 32 gunshot victims made it the deadliest shooting event in the United States at the time. Before turning the gun on himself, he killed 32 people and injured 23 more.
The shooting occurred nearly eight years after the Columbine High School shooting, in which a 23-year-old student opened fire in two locations in the school, first in a dorm room and later in an academic building across campus.
