Lance Blanks, a former Texas star, NBA player, and executive, died on Wednesday (May 3), the league announced Thursday (May 4) afternoon. He was 56.

Blanks, who was born on September 9, 1966, played for the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Blanks also played in Europe for several seasons.
From 2010 to 2013, Blanks was the general manager of the Phoenix Suns.
Blanks played collegiately at the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin.
Blanks holds the record for the most points scored by a two-year player with 1,322 and is the eighth-leading scorer in University of Texas history. Blanks finished his Texas career as the all-time leader in steals and fourth in career scoring average with 20.0 points per game.

In 2007, he was inducted into Texas Athletics’ Longhorn Hall of Honor.
Blanks worked as a television analyst for the Texas Longhorns on Longhorn Network from 2020 until his death in 2023.
