Kotalawala, the company’s chairman, was charged with theft and financial mismanagement after the demise of the Ceylinco Consolidated-affiliated Golden Key Creditcard Company.
On February 26, 2009, the Mount Lavinia Magistrate remanded him, and he was given a 10-day deadline to repay the Rs. 26 billion in deposits made by Golden Key Creditcard Company customers. The same magistrate had remanded the CEO Khavan Perera, the CFO, and a number of other directors weeks earlier.
